BBYC02. 'Learn To Sail' Introductory Certificate.
The 'Learn to Sail' Introductory Certificate Course consists of 2 x 4 hour lessons.
On completion you will receive Course Notes, an Australian Yachting Federation Logbook
and a Certificate. Refreshments and wet weather gear will be provided. Please bring a hat,
warm clothing, white soled shoes, sun screen and any special dietary items you may require.
Sailing Course - Syllabus Outline
An introduction to sailing and working aboard a sailing yacht in sheltered waters.
The course covers the following:
Personal safety: Safety equipment use and stowage. Suitable clothing and footwear.
Ropework: Securing ropes to cleats. Coiling and care of ropes and sheets.
Knot tying - Round turn & two half hitches, reef knot, bowline.
Working as Sheet-Hand: Safe and correct use of winches. Hardening-in, easing-out, checking and securing.
The Compass: Bearing and steering compass.
The Chart: Scale, Land / sea definition. Depths in metres and fathoms.
Steering: Steering while under sail.
Anchors: Anchoring and mooring.
